Application

You will need to complete an application form with your Group Scout Leader, the adult who manages Scouting in your Group.  This includes a DBS form so you will be asked to provide certain documents to enable us to apply for your check.  You will also be asked to provide two names who we will contact for references.

You will appreciate that we have to be very careful who looks after our young people.

Getting Started

Once we have received a completed DBS from the authorities and your two references we will ask you to meet our Appointments Advisory Panel.  This is a relatively informal meeting with a small group of people to discuss how you can help us.  They will advise the District Commissioner on the suitability of the adult and the role they have applied for.

The Advisory Panel generally hold meetings every two months and ask you to attend for around 90 minutes.  This meeting will include a ten minute meeting with the panel and some time with a Training Adviser agreeing your Learning Plan (see below).  When you are invited to this meeting we will also recommend you complete module 1 of the Adult Training programme online and come to the meeting ready to validate that module.

Learning and Training

All adults volunteering to work with our young people need to undertake a modular training programme relevant to their role.

Whilst you complete your Learning Plan and modules 1 and 3 you will hold a “Provisional Appointment”.  You have five months from application to complete these requirements.
